Humble beginnings
After a solid 2 years of designing graphics for t-shirts while still actively practising in the other fields I engage in; I have selected ten illustrations from the over one thousand designs I am currently sitting on. Finally, I am launching the first season of Shy Nude.
This season sets the template for the next to unfold.
For the first season I have started with designs that speak for themselves, ones that everyone may see something different in. I’m wanting to push the envelope in clothing design. It is fair to say I have options to choose from. Each season will have; a saying or two typeset in one of my many typefaces and other typographic illustrations, a rose illustration, an abstract face or faces - some being derivatives of my paintings, compositions of shapes sometimes stated as abstract shapes, letterflowers or mandalas which are a decorative letter or shape rotated around a point to form a decorative graphic.
So it’s narrowed down to ten.
The photo shoot was an absolute hit. We had a good time. Special thanks to Hannah and Phillip, you guys brought the energy. When processing the shots I made the decision to over crop the images. I thought this would capture a sense that there is more to the picture, using lines from the art in the background as a cropping point. I also have not seen another clothing line over cropping their images, so it’s a point of difference as well.
It’s pretty obvious to those around me that my practice is an ongoing metaphor.
As Shy Nude we have started with elation and aim to be adding new designs to the library regularly. We like to let the designs speak for themselves and in saying that we are trying to say a lot, all the esoteric things an art label would try to pout, but, it can be simply said Art Culture Clothing.
